About this deal

On light coloured woods that have a broken finish I would recommend using our pure gold polish but be aware; where the polish is applied over the broken areas it will appear matt and where it is applied over the intact finished areas it will appear to enhance giving a sheen. In effect potentially highlighting the broken, missing areas. The biggest mistake made when wax polishing is buffing the wax off straight after applying it.A good quality brand of wax polish will instruct you to leave the wax to dry on the surface before buffing. The wax needs to evenly coat the surface and dry. Once dry, the wax can be buffed to a soft sheen. You're not rubbing the wax off, you're buffing the wax cells smooth, so they all lie flat on the surface. This allows the light in, to reflect the beautiful wood, at the same time as acting as a naturally enhancing and sacrificial layer. If your tin or can of polish instructs you to apply and then buff after a few minutes or less, you really are doing no more than just wiping it on, and wiping it off. I go into more detail about why these brands recommend this ‘waste of your time’ later on in this article. Polishing With Beeswax: The Correct Way To Buff I've selected 'rose gold' because it has a slight warmth to it, a mahogany colour that will match well with the old pine wood on this table top. Inspect & Repair

Cosmetic-grade lanolin (wool wax) for its excellent emollient properties. It replicates the natural lubrication of animal skin, softening leather, preventing it from drying and allowing the fibres to move smoothly across each other and so reduces abrasive wear. It is both water-retaining and repellent. Colron also produce wood dyes that may be cheaper and easier to get hold of locally. They also have a greater range of colours. It's not a true oil stain, more of a combination of oil with a stronger solvent. You can easily find Colron wood dyes online. Yes you can, If you are looking for a wax only finish. I do understand that a natural wax only finish has a unique look and feel to it but I must say that this is not a finish that I actively promote very much. If you set on this then this is the way I would approach a ‘wax only’ finish on new wood: Household spray can also change the sheen of your piano if you have a satin finished one. Over years of constant use the spray will start to give the finish glossier and glossier sheen. Often not noticed until it's discovered by looking inside or underneath one of the piano lids. So a single application, of any of our coloured wax polishes, will in the majority of cases, be all that is needed for years and years. And, if you do need or want to apply a second time only small amounts of colour will be transferred.Stir the hard wax oil: Before applying, stir the hard wax oil thoroughly to ensure an even mixture of oils and waxes. Invest in the enduring beauty of your wooden surfaces today with Gilboys Hard Wax Oil. For interiors that are as safe as they are stunning, there’s no better choice. Hard wax oils are very durable and provide good protection. You can use a polyurethane varnish or lacquer but with that you may compromise the look and feel of the table. The reason I like using hard wax oils is because they are made from non toxic, natural ingredients and are very easy to apply (unlike the traditional lacquers and varnishes). They are also hard-wearing and look very similar to the original finish applied by G-Plan and other mid-century teak furniture manufacturers (which would have been spray gun applied). Concentrate on cleaning small areas at a time and immediately dry the area with a dry soft cloth (old soft towelling we have found works best). This process would start to make the finish semi opaque, disguising the blemishes and bad repairs. I would then continue with the clear coats over the top and on to the rest of the finishing process.

Unfortunately, like many industries these days, wax polish manufacturers are trapped in a 'race to the bottom' of reducing prices and costs by replacing high quality natural ingredients with inferior cheap petrochemical substitutes. A: The frequency with which you should reapply hard wax oil depends on factors such as mechanical wear, the level of use, and environmental conditions. Generally, it is recommended to reapply hard wax oil every few years or when the finish starts to show signs of wear. Apply the second coat: After the first coat has dried, apply a second thin coat of hard wax oil, following the same process as before. Sanding between coats may not be necessary, but it is advisable for a smoother finish. Apply the first coat: Using a brush or lint-free cloth, apply a thin coat of hard wax oil to the furniture, working in small sections and moving with the grain of the wood. Be sure to spread the finish evenly, avoiding drips and pooling Use the included open-weave cotton buffing cloth to gently buff the wax to your preferred level of lustre. An open-weave cloth helps to prevent smearing. At Gilboys we have refined the traditional beeswax polish recipe using research we have carried out regarding the beneficial properties of other natural ingredients. We have added the highest quality 'T1' grade carnauba wax produced by the copernicia cerifera tree to protect its leaves from water, pathogens and UV radiation. As the hardest of all natural waxes with the highest melting point it helps to provide a deep deep shine with a strong, highly water-resistant and longer-wearing protective finish. If you have mistakenly tried to do this you can remove the excess wax by wiping it with a soft cloth which has been dampened with white spirit. (not methylated spirits) It will remove the wax without harming the finish. Then buff it with a clean dry cloth. Rose Gold for use on Rosewood, Teak, Light Mahogany, Cherry, and Honey Oak furniture, G-Plan, Nathan, Mcintosh and all Mid Century Teak furniture or similar coloured woods
